Identity and Travel Documents
Valid passport (machine-readable) with at least 2 blank pages and minimum 30 days validity beyond your planned departure from South Africa, along with any previous passports if available. Recent passport-size photographs as per South African mission/photo specifications, plus copies of your passport bio-data page and any previous visas or strong travel history.
Financial Documents
Recent personal bank statements (usually last 3 months, signed and stamped) showing sufficient funds to cover your full stay in South Africa, along with savings statements or proof of other liquid funds if applicable. You may also add income proof such as salary slips, tax returns, or a bank letter confirming account balance and ownership.
Job or Business Proof
For employees: a current employment letter mentioning designation, salary, joining date, and approved leave for the travel period, plus recent salary slips. For business owners/self-employed: business registration certificate, company profile (if any), and last 3 months’ business bank statements and tax records as available.
Home-Country Ties
Evidence that you will return after your trip, such as proof of an ongoing job, an employer leave letter clearly stating you will resume duties, or active business documents. You can also include family details, property documents, study enrollment letters, or other strong ties to your home country.
Travel Plan
Basic travel itinerary showing planned cities and duration of stay, along with return/onward flight reservation (recommended, not always required to be a purchased ticket). Confirmed hotel bookings or stay arrangements for your full trip, or if visiting family/friends, their invitation letter with address, contact details, and proof of their legal status in South Africa (ID/passport/visa/residence).
Sponsor Documents
If your trip is sponsored, the sponsor’s bank statements (usually the last 3 months, stamped), proof of job or business, and a copy of their ID/passport or South African residence permit, as applicable. A clear sponsorship/undertaking letter explaining the relationship with you and confirming they will cover your travel and stay expenses is also required.
